The Bee's Knees
Last night's talk about Bees and their importance to the environment was full of interesting facts and information. I'm sure we all learned a lot about the different kinds of bees and their complex and fascinating lives.
Liz also brought along her range of Bee goods - honey, honey fudge (yum!), soaps, balms, creams and lots of ideas for Christmas presents.
The competition was to create a handcrafted bee brooch and there were some great entries.
It was a really enjoyable evening which made it worthwhile having come out in the wind and the rain!

Harvest Supper
Last Tuesday we held our annual Harvest Supper. Our members enjoyed a lovely meal of quiche and salad with all the trimmings, apple crumble and ice-cream with a glass of wine or fruit juice. The quiche and crumble were all home-made by the Committee and they went down very well.
Here are some members enjoying the meal and the good company. It was great to welcome a number of new members.

Learning how to say it with flowers
At our monthly meeting last night, we were treated to an amazing demonstration of flower arranging by Pamela Gordon and Carole Carter.
They showed us how to use greenery and flowers from the hedgerows and from our gardens to make stunning arrangements.
There were many helpful tips on how to create really professional arrangements.
The beautiful flowers were kindly donated by Pamela and Carole for our raffle.
It was an interesting and instructive evening so a big thank-you to Pamela and Carole

LOOKING GOOD FEELING GREAT
Last night we enjoyed a really interesting and even inspirational talk from Lizzie Fox, image consultant and personal stylist on how to look good and consequently to feel great.
Lizzie took us through the different skin/colour types and linked these to the colours that really look good on you. She had some volunteers (see below) to represent each type and this demonstration of which colours make you look your best and which don't was really striking.
Lizzie also touched on body shape and how to work with the shape you are. She gave us practical hints and advice.
It was also a fun evening with lots of laughs. Lizzie was able to put across her message which is
“We are who we are – so let’s make the very best of ourselves"

Our Summer Cream Tea
About 50 members and friends of Teignmouth WI attended the Summer Cream Tea to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea with scones and cream. It was lovely to see so many of our members and to welcome members from other WIs - Cofton, Stokeinteignhead, Bishopsteignton and Shaldon.
We were also delighted to welcome Jacqui Orme, the Deputy Mayor of Teignmouth who spoke a few words and answered members' questions.
We were entertained by one of Maureen's quizzes on the subject of Tea and Tea related items. There was a raffle and a draw for our bursary of £150 which was won by Jacqui Burnay.
A very enjoyable afternoon. Many thanks to all those who contributed scones and to the Committee especially Dee who did all the mountain of washing up after the event!

Teignside Group Meeting
Our competition entries |
At the meeting |
Reports were given by all the Group WIs secretaries and Pam gave an entertaining speech outlining all our many interesting activities.
Following that, Felicity Harper gave us a talk on the Courtney Family of Powderham which was informative and amusing in places!
Thanks to Pam, Angela and Jacqui for their excellent entries which looked lovely.
Unfortunately this wasn't to be our year and in the end the host Stokeinteignhead WI won the Rose bowl.
We will have to make a determined effort to get it back next year when Bishopsteignton WI are hosting the evening!

Didn't we have a lovely time ?

We had a lovely time yesterday when a large group of us visited Otter Nurseries, Honiton and the Lace Museum. The sun shone all day and it was HOT! Still we managed to find various places to cool down and have coffee and lunch. It was great to welcome members of other WIs ( Dawlish and Bishopsteignton) on the trip and we all agreed we must do more combined activities in the future.
Otter Nurseries was a great shopping opportunity and we were specially tempted by the bargains in the plants, pots and garden furniture. On to Honiton we had the opportunity to look around the market and the shops and have a lovely relaxed lunch. The Lace Museum was absolutely amazing and Pat Perryman gave us a demonstration and then talked to us about some of the exhibits. This piece of lace was so beautiful with spider webs (with spiders in them), leaves, moons, stars, birds - absolutely beautiful. See http://www.honitonmuseum.co.uk
