LADIES WHO LUNCH-THE MUNCH BUNCH

Some of our WI ladies visited The Thatched Cottage Restaurant in Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot on Thursday 17th March. The food was excellent as you can see from the photographs, and the ladies very much enjoyed the food and surroundings as well as the excellent company.

This month’s lively talk was Driving Safer for Longer by Mike Hull of the Devon Driving Academy which is based at Westpoint. Make gave some very good advice on the perils of driving nowadays, from aggressive motorists to glare on windscreens. The competition was A Humorous Driving Limerickwhich was won by June Hewitt.

There was an old lady from Haldon
Who drove ev’ry day down to Shaldon
She so loved the view
But this formed a queue
Of drivers who cried “Get a move on!”

Our second speaker was Richard Brent, a trustee of the new Pavilions Teignmouth. This exciting new facility is owned by the District Councilrun by a Community Trust and will rely on lots of local volunteers.  The multi-purpose main area can seat 220 people for cinema and live theatre shows and there are offices to rent along with three studio rooms.  There will be a restaurant on the roof with magnificent views over the bay and a cafĂ© on the ground floor.   On April 16th there will be a Barn Dance/Ceildh with the Mooncoin Band and it is hoped to get up a party of members to pop along to enjoy the fun.
