Teignmouth Sculpure Trail- WI Octopus

POTS AND TOPS OCTOPUS

In this the 50th anniversary year of the founding of Teignmouth ( originally Higher Teignmouth) Woman's Institute ,we are delighted to be taking part in the Sculpture Trail for the first time .
Our octopus has been created from recycled yoghurt pots and bottle tops-we drink a lot of tea !
It represents the many arms of the WI-not just jam and Jerusalem for which we are so well known, but so much more- friendship , education , crafts of all kinds , local projects and national campaigns on important social and environmental issues .

The craft club members helped sort the lids by colour . We used 464 yoghurt pots and 2832 tops collected by the members .
On the day we transported the octopus to the sea front we spent about 2 hours fixing the octopus together . The box the octopus is coming out of was found in a members loft (Angela) and its head (an exercise ball ) was given by Sandra .

Fabulous Flower Festival

The flower festival was held at St Michaels Church in Teignmouth and the ladies from Teignmouth WI did us proud.
A few extra photos of the Flower Festival at St Michaels Church on 29th June to 3rd July.  The theme this year was ‘Songs of Praise’ and our display was ‘Jerusalem’ with symbols of the hymn being featured.

July Meeting

This months meeting was very well attended by around 70 ladies. Tracy Johnson was the speaker and we were all suprised she found the time when she told us about all the different crafts that she does! The theme was wild about crafts and Tracy did an excellent demonstration using Marino wool, shrinking it and compacting it to make a brooch, it was fascinating to see. Needless to say everyone thoroughly enjoyed the talk and demonstration.
This months competition was Golden days in celebration of our 50th Birthday, and the entrants were excellent, below are just a few of the entries.
