POTS AND TOPS OCTOPUS
In this the 50th anniversary year of the founding of Teignmouth ( originally Higher Teignmouth) Woman's Institute ,we are delighted to be taking part in the Sculpture Trail for the first time .
Our octopus has been created from recycled yoghurt pots and bottle tops-we drink a lot of tea !
It represents the many arms of the WI-not just jam and Jerusalem for which we are so well known, but so much more- friendship , education , crafts of all kinds , local projects and national campaigns on important social and environmental issues .
The craft club members helped sort the lids by colour . We used 464 yoghurt pots and 2832 tops collected by the members .
On the day we transported the octopus to the sea front we spent about 2 hours fixing the octopus together . The box the octopus is coming out of was found in a members loft (Angela) and its head (an exercise ball ) was given by Sandra .
