Fashion Show at M & Co
Yesterday evening we had a great time at the Fashion Show at M & Co. Teignmouth. Our lovely volunteers modelled day-wear, evening-wear and festive wear and all looked gorgeous- as you can see from the pictures below.
A big thank-you to John Nixon for allowing us to use his photos (and for saving my bacon when I left my camera at home!)
Also thank you to M & Co for all their help in organising the evening which was well attended. Teignmouth WI were able to donate £100 to the M & Co charity - Cancer Research UK - from our ticket sales and raffle takings. So thanks to all for their generosity.

A really fun evening - here are the pictures:

Becoming Dementia Friends
After our inspiring and instructive talk from Heather Penwarden on Living with Dementia, all of us present signed up to be Dementia Friends. This involves helping to create a more dementia-friendly community in which we are more informed and so can work to change the way people think, act and talk about dementia.
As a Dementia Friend, you can pledge an action such as:
- get in touch and stay in touch with somone I know living with dementia
- volunteer for an organisation that helps people with dementia
- wear my badge and tell five friends about the Dementia Friends initiative
- carry out a personal action e.g. be more pateient when out in the community or help soemone to find the right bus
- make craft items like fiddle quilts
Here we all are: waving our cards and badges.

Kitchen Memorabilia
Our competition tonight was to bring in an item of Kitchen Memorabilia - here are some of the very interesting items our members brought in.
DEMENTIA AWARENESS
The talk was most informative and we all learnt something. It was also very moving and emotional for those of us who have or are experiencing the effects Dementia can have.
A big thank you to Heather for coming to speak to us.

HARVEST SUPPER
We all enjoyed an excellent Harvest Supper last night - the food was good and the company great fun! A huge vote of thanks to our Committee for all their hard work in giving everyone such an enjoyable evening.
It was great just to have the opportunity to spend time with friends and have a good catch-up. Maureen provided us with one of her mind- stretching quizzes which needed a lot of concentration!
The competition to create an animal from vegetables or fruit was well supported with some wonderful entries.

The Teignside Group meeting was held last evening at Bishopsteignton Village Hall. Representatives from the four WIs which make up the Group attended to hear reports from the other groups of their activities over the past year, an address by Cynthia Somerfield, WI Advisor and a talk on Magic by Zak Stone.
In the Group Competition, Teignmouth came 3rd but our entries looked great (see picture). Teignmouth WI are hosting the Group meeting next year so let's have lots of ideas for speakers etc.
If you have a brilliant idea, let Maureen or Pam know !

Any suggestions about other lunch / dinner venues, let Pam know as we are always up for a new adventure. We alternate lunch and dinners and try to go out as a group once a month. It is a great way of making new friends and trying out different foods and venues. What's not to like?

CHINESE BRUSH ART WORKSHOP
Twelve of us enjoyed a really interesting and creative afternoon on Saturday learning the basics of Chinese Brush Art. We learnt how to draw bamboos and peonies with varying degrees of success! Lisa was extremely patient and took us through each stage showing us how to draw it first and then everyone had a go!
Here is what we did
Many thanks to Lisa for sharing her talent and her creativity - we all left inspired

MURDER MOST FOUL
Our meeting on Tuesday 8th September is an interactive talk by Jill Drysdale titled "Murder Most Foul". It involves the audience in deciding whether the person whom Jill puts forward as the perpetrator did the deed. It is a true story which took place in 1865.
This sounds like a fun challenge for all of us would-be Miss Marples!
Our competition this month is a home-baked Death By Chocolate cake or biscuit which Jill has offered to judge. So get your deadliest, wickedest recipes out !
See you there.

A BIG thank you to Dee and all the ladies who contributed scones!

BEETLE DRIVE
Some of us hadn't played BEETLE for years, and at times it seemed chaotic with some rather loose interpretations of the rules, and plenty of confusion when it came to the highest scorer moving on each time, but the Beetle Drive last night was great fun.
Congratulations to Frances Dingley, Mary Nixon and Angela Parkes for their winning entries to the Group Competition, kindly judged by Wendy and Anne from Cofton WI.
