It was Teignmouth WIs turn to host the group this year. The Teignside group consists of Shaldon and Ringmore, Stokeinteignhead, Bishopsteignton as well as the hosts Teignmouth. The theme was Golden as its Teignmouths 50 birthday. Shaldon and Ringmore won the group competition. The speaker was Simon Hall who was amusing and interesting, he spoke about his work as a TV journalist and about the detective novels that he writes, several members purchased books from him on the night. The catering team worked very hard to produce a wonderful buffet for everyone to enjoy and the compliments were flying around. Pictured below are a few photos from the evening, our Speaker, Simon Hall, the lovely food and just a few of the competition entries. A fabulous fun evening, enjoyed by everyone.

Looking Good Feeling Great
On Wednesday night we enjoyed a really interesting and even inspirational talk from Lizzie Fox, image consultant and personal stylist on how to look good and consequently to feel great.
Lizzie took us through the different skin/colour types and linked these to the colours that really look good on you. She had some volunteers to represent each type and this demonstration of which colours make you look your best and which don't was very interesting.
Lizzie also touched on body shape and how to work with the shape you are. She gave us practical hints and advice.
Lizzie also did a make up demonstration on one of our ladies, showing us how to use gentle colours on lighter skin tones, I think we all learned something.
It was also a fun evening with lots of laughs. Lizzie was able to put across her message which is
“We are who we are – so let’s make the very best of ourselves"

Teignmouth Sculpure Trail- WI Octopus
POTS AND TOPS OCTOPUS
In this the 50th anniversary year of the founding of Teignmouth ( originally Higher Teignmouth) Woman's Institute ,we are delighted to be taking part in the Sculpture Trail for the first time .
Our octopus has been created from recycled yoghurt pots and bottle tops-we drink a lot of tea !
It represents the many arms of the WI-not just jam and Jerusalem for which we are so well known, but so much more- friendship , education , crafts of all kinds , local projects and national campaigns on important social and environmental issues .
The craft club members helped sort the lids by colour . We used 464 yoghurt pots and 2832 tops collected by the members .
On the day we transported the octopus to the sea front we spent about 2 hours fixing the octopus together . The box the octopus is coming out of was found in a members loft (Angela) and its head (an exercise ball ) was given by Sandra .

July Meeting
This months meeting was very well attended by around 70 ladies. Tracy Johnson was the speaker and we were all suprised she found the time when she told us about all the different crafts that she does! The theme was wild about crafts and Tracy did an excellent demonstration using Marino wool, shrinking it and compacting it to make a brooch, it was fascinating to see. Needless to say everyone thoroughly enjoyed the talk and demonstration.
This months competition was Golden days in celebration of our 50th Birthday, and the entrants were excellent, below are just a few of the entries.

Teign Heartbeat- Defibs in the Community
One of our own members, Shirley Brokenshaw, gave our talk this month. Everybody found it very interesting and informative. Shirley explained that her charity raises funds to provide defibrillators in the local community that are accessible 24 hours a day. 2 people in Teignmouth would have died last year if the Defibs were not available. Shirley gave members free books and sold beautiful cards.
The competition was a decorated heart, see photos below.
